Armor is key to survival in System Shock 2 Remastered, as you’ll need to make sure that you don’t get one-shot by the enemy. However, there are varying armor types, and not everything works in every situation.
Your choice of Armor will depend on how you want to play the game and what your build is as a player. As such, here’s a detailed guide to all the major Armor types you can unlock in the game and how valuable they are in a given situation.
Every Armor type in System Shock 2 Remastered

Here is a list of all the armor you can collect in the game, and a description of those alongside their viability:
Light Combat Armor
This is the first armor that you will come across in the opening section of the game, and it will provide you with 20 percent DEF. You’ll need 2 Strength to equip it, which is very low, and all classes should find it accessible.
This armor isn’t much, but it’s very handy in the early game, where you will mostly focus on melee combat.
Standard Combat Armor
The Standard Combat Armor comes with 30% DEF, and you’ll need 4 Strength to equip it. This Armor isn’t that good since you also come across Powered Armor in the same area, which is significantly better. The boost from Standard Armor is minuscule, and you’ll replace it a few minutes after equipping it.
Heavy Combat Armor
Heavy Combat Armor provides a 40% DEF boost for 6 Strength. This is a very good deal since the Strength requirement isn’t that high, but the DEF is good enough to sustain you until the endgame. In fact, if you don’t want to use Power Armor that needs constant recharging, Heavy Armor is your best bet for survival.
Powered Armor
This is arguably the strongest armor in the game, with 50% DEF at only 3 Strength, thereby making it accessible as well. However, it comes with a catch: you need to recharge it constantly to ensure it functions when needed.
This is something that will bother several players, but there’s nothing to worry about. This is because the game has an abundance of Recharge Stations and batteries, which means you can keep the Powered Armor active at all times.
As such, it’s highly recommended you use it as there’s nothing in the game that will improve your survivability.
Hazard Suit
This is an armor that provides you with about 75% resistance to toxins and radiation, but it doesn’t have any equipping requirement. This makes it one of the best armors in the game since not only does it protect you from the ailments mentioned, it removes the need to level up O/S upgrades or stats for radiation protection.
You can instead use those upgrade modules on other necessary stats that are way more valuable.
WormSkin Armor
This armor comes with a 20% DEF bonus, a 30% Radiation and Toxin bonus, and +2 Psi level. However, it also has 3 Research requirements, and it drains Psi points when used. This is an armor that is a jack of all trades and master of none.
It does nothing very well and you get it pretty late in the game, where its use is pretty much unnecessary. If you want it, you can equip it, but the Powered Armor and Hazard Suit are way better than this one in every aspect.
