Gearbox and PlayStation have presented a Borderlands 4 gameplay deep dive State of Play showcase.
The 20-minute video gave us a look at two of its new Vault Hunters, the new planet of Kairos, and some new weaponry.
The video also showed some new gameplay features that look to freshen up the series. You’ll now be able to glide over distances and do some wall-climbing as you explore Kairos. There’s even a new vehicle type called the Digirunner.
The new Vault Hunters shown were Exo-Soldier Rafa and a Siren called Vex. Rafa is equipped with a weapon-generating exo-suit, while Vex can summon deadly shades to assist her in combat.

Borderlands 4 Gameplay Deep Dive
This comes after Gearbox brought forward the game’s release date to September 23, 2025, by over a week, fueling speculation that it was moving out of the way of Grand Theft Auto VI’s mysterious release date. Gearbox’s boss Randy Pitchford denied this, stating that “Borderlands 4 shipping early is 100% the result of confidence in the game and development trajectory backed by actual tasks and bug find/fix rates.”
Borderlands 4 looks like it’s in good shape. The game’s narrative director had previously stated the game would take a different approach to its humor, with meme culture and bodily function jokes largely relegated from the game’s writing. So we’re getting a proper reboot of the series that will hopefully keep what’s been consistently strong about it.
Borderlands 4 is set to release on September 12, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and a Switch version, which will be available at a later date.
