Capcom is a powerhouse studio that has delivered several gaming behemoths over the past many years. Recently, the developer updated its Platinum Titles – ones that have crossed 1 million units or more since launch. The studio has a staggering 123 titles that qualify for this, with the last game on the list being the PS2 game Devil May Cry Special Edition, released in Feb 2006, which did just about the 1 million number.

The game sitting tall at the top is the Monster Hunter: World with 21.3 million units sold since its launch in 2018. The second game in the list also belongs to the same franchise – Monster Hunter: Rise which has had lesser time than its 2018 counterpart: Rise released in 2021 and in the 3 years till Dec 2024 has touched 16.7 million units. Monster Hunter: World sits at a Metacritic score of 90, while Rise is at 88.
While these 2 games in the franchise rule the top 2, if we look at the top 10 games, 6 of those belong to the other big property in Capcom’s roster: Resident Evil. The RE2 remake did 15 million units, while the next entry in the series in the list is RE7 at 14.4 million units since inception.

The interesting thing here is that at a franchise level, RE also is the biggest one for Capcom with 167 million units across all games in the series, while Monster Hunter is 108 million units.
With Monster Hunter: Wilds planned for release in Feb 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X, it will be interesting to see how the numbers look at the end of the year. The gameplay trailers, reveals, and deepdives for Monster Hunter: Wilds do look extremely promising, and with the studio nailing this gameplay loop over the past 2 entries in the series, it is not a surprise at all that the game is one of the most anticipated releases of 2025.
