Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 sales have hit another milestone, with the game reaching 2 million copies sold in under two weeks since its release.
Previously, Publisher Kepler Interactive had announced that the game had sold over one million units in just two days (including those shipped to retailers), and that didn’t even include those who played the game through Xbox Game Pass. Now, despite healthy competition from the juggernaut that is The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered (which has just become the third-highest-selling game of 2025), Sandfall Interactive’s debut is still going incredibly strong thanks to stellar review scores and player word of mouth.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Sales Hit New Heights
The story of Clair Obscur Expedition 33 concerns the dreadful power of the Paintress, a being who inscribes a cursed number on a monolith, which causes mass death. After she does this each year, an expedition is sent out to stop her before the next number can be painted. Unfortunately, these expeditions tend to fail quite horribly. Players lead the members of the titular Expedition 33 on their quest to finally destroy the Paintress.
The game world is heavily inspired by Belle Époque France, a period in French history from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. It features a combat style that blends real-time and turn-based mechanics.
The game features one of my favorite openings in quite some time, which I wrote about last week. I’m deep into it now, and it’s shaping up to be one of the standout games of 2025 for me.
If you’re not one of the 2 million playing this great RPG, you can find a copy on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC to correct that. Otherwise, maybe go check out the unfortunate The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy which was released at the same time as Clair Obscur and Oblivion Remastered, but got overshadowed despite its quality.
