Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Edition Won’t Suffer Like the PS4/Xbox One Version Did

Players may have had justifiable concerns about a Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 edition, but CD Projekt Red is confident this will be sturdier than some previous versions of the game.

On last-gen consoles, Cyberpunk 2077 really struggled, a fact that wasn’t helped by the game’s general launch disaster on all platforms. When it came time to unleash the Phantom Liberty expansion, the PS4 and Xbox One versions were left in the dust.

But for the Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 version, titled Ultimate Edition, CD Projekt Red has learned lessons from that time, and players will get a pretty feature-complete version of the game that includes the expansion and runs far better than last-gen versions.

Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Version Should Allievate Previous-Gen Woes

Speaking to Game File, CD Projekt Red engineer Tim Green was asked about the game’s performance on Switch 2, and he responded,

“Cyberpunk 2077 has seen a tremendous amount of ongoing love as we’ve continued to improve the game. In bringing the Ultimate Edition to Nintendo Switch 2 we were able to build on top of that already solid base.

Development still had challenges, of course, as any development process does, but we’ve been careful in picking tradeoffs to not compromise the game’s vision.”

Green goes on to mention that Switch 2 hasn’t struggled fitting the game on a cart and the system itself.

“We haven’t had to fight with fitting into memory, and the speed of the data storage has helped alleviate some of those early streaming problems. This has allowed us to focus our attention on improving other things, and we’re very happy with the result.”

Game File would go on to confirm that Green’s comments on improving other things were about the ill-fated PS4 and Xbox One versions.

Green also tells us in the conversation that the Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 release will target 1080p resolution in TV quality and performance modes as well as handheld quality mode. the Handheld performance mode will aim for 720p.

It’s obviously not touching the higher end of Cyberpunk’s capabilities, but the flexibility of the Switch 2 version is a fair compromise (although Steam Deck also offers this with the right setup).

Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition is out on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025.
