First Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered Screens and Details Discovered

[Update] On ResetEra, a user found the first screenshots and game details for Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered from the developer Virtuos’ website.

The details tell us Virtuos has been working with Bethesda Dallas and Bethesda Rockville on the game and that it is, in fact, titled The Elder Scrolls IV: Remastered, rather than a remake.

It also revealed that the games will release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a Game Pass release happening for Xbox.

The screenshots include the new cover art and some comparison shots.

The incoming shadow drop for The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered has seemingly gotten a bit more concrete, with Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb providing an update on what his source has told him.

Just last week, Grubb said a source informed him that The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered was ”going to shadow drop at any moment this month”.

On the latest episode of Grubb’s Game Mess Mornings stream, he updated viewers with an even narrower release window. He stated that it looks likely that the game’s shadow drop will be next week, the last full week of April.

Oblivion was first released in 2006.

“Let’s update on Oblivion and the shadow drop. Last week on the show, we were talking about it like, ‘oh yeah, it should shadow drop at any moment. ’ I’ll give people a week now – the week of April 21. Basically, the last week of this month – next week, essentially.”

Grubb then said it wasn’t the only source to back that new window up.

“It should shadow drop then, which I think, you know, other people have said, but I’ve gotten separate confirmation that that’s going to be the case. So shadow drop, last week of the month, I’m getting excited for this one.”

You can hear Grubb talk about it in the episode shown below.

Multiple outlets have reported on an Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion remake for some time now, with Grubb, MP1ST, VGC, and more all reporting on aspects of it, including the news that it was being developed by Metal Gear Solid Delta studio Virtous. MP1ST previously reported this would be a full remake made with Unreal Engine 5, and would rework six gameplay systems, including stamina, sneaking (a new highlight system), blocking (inspired by Souls-like games), and archery.

It doesn’t seem like we’re getting a new Elder Scrolls anytime soon, and Skyrim has been done to death, so Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered will hopefully be a pleasant compromise.
