Fantasy Maiden Wars: Dreams of the Stray Dreamer is finally getting a Western release, as announced by developer Sanbondo and publisher Phoenixx
The Touhou Project tactical RPG will swoop onto Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam sometime in 2025, with an English translation.
Initially released in 2022 on Switch in Japan, Fantasy Maiden Wars is a tactical RPG where you command a diverse cast of characters and battle your way through stage-based missions.
The game is set in Gensokyo, a world where humans, youkai, and gods coexist. Players will team up with over 70 unique allies to confront a series of supernatural incidents shaking the land. Choosing between shrine maiden Reimu Hakurei or magician Marisa Kirisame as the protagonist will impact certain parts of the story.
Fantasy Maiden Wars Trailer and Details
The game weaves together reinterpretations of storylines from across the Touhou Project series, uniting them into a single, epic narrative arc that appeals to both newcomers and longtime fans.
Deploy units across grid-based maps, taking down enemies with strategic positioning and turn-based tactics, and clear stages to progress the story. Multiple difficulty levels and a comprehensive tutorial system make this a suitable entry point for players new to the genre, while offering ample depth for veterans.
Players will be able to customize their squad between missions in the Intermission screen—equip gear, assign skills, and build the dream team their way. Each character has unique traits and signature abilities, opening the door to countless team compositions and strategies. Go all-in on favorites or hunt down the most broken combos.
The game also features a detailed character and terminology encyclopedia to swot up on the increasingly complex world of the Touhou Project, and a whopping 200 music tracks to chill out to if you so wish.
Fantasy Maiden Wars will join fellow Touhou Project RPG Marisa of Liartop Mountain in coming to Switch and PC in 2025.
