Genshin Impact dropped a brand new teaser called The God’s Limit on July 9, 2025, and it covered a lot of lore for the game. It focused on some of the Gods of the franchise, who have mostly remained in the shadows for a while now.
However, the point that caught everyone’s attention was a hint at Paimon’s identity, who has remained a mysterious character even five years after the release of the game. It seems, though, that the identity of Paimon is set to be revealed at some point shortly.
Who is Paimon based on Genshin Impact’s new teaser

The God’s Limit teaser showed Three of the Four Shades of the Heavenly Principles, namely Ronova- Ruler of Death, Rhinedottir- Ruler of Life, and Istaroth- Ruler of Time. It showed that the Gods are finally having a meeting, mostly focused on the recent happenings in Tevyat.
However, there was a line in the trailer which stated, “She loves her new master more than her own self.” This line is attributed to Asmoday, who is one of the Four Shades and should have also been present at the meeting. If you remember, Asmoday was the God who separated the two Traveler siblings in the opening scene of the game.
However, Asmoday not being present at the meeting and with the claims of a master, it is a solid hint that Paimon is the missing God who happened to join hands with the Traveler. The motive behind why she did that is unknown, but several theories since the beginning of the game have claimed that she wanted to turn against the Heavenly Principles.
Additionally, by this point, it must be pretty obvious that Paimon is no ordinary being. She doesn’t have any resemblance to anyone from the major nations of Tevyat, nor is there any history or lore found in books and other materials. There is only one assumption, that Paimon is a God or an outworldly being, similar to the Traveler.
In this case, though, she seems to have significantly reduced her powers, and by studying the new teaser, it is even more prominent that she is Asmoday, who had decided to leave the side of the Heavenly Principles after the Traveler arrived at Tevyat.
The trailer also focuses on Pierro, the leader of the Fatui, who makes a statement, “What is the price of killing a God?” Pierro directly works under Tsaritsa, the Cryo Archon, and it seems they are all planning something big, which will potentially be revealed once Snezhnaya releases in a future update.
