Hacking in System Shock 2 Remastered is one of the many activities, and it’s arguably one of the most important skills to acquire. This is because the game by itself can be difficult, but Hacking can let you bypass doors or shut down systems, which will make your life a lot easier.

However, Hacking can be difficult as well, especially if you’re new to the game and have never played the original one. Here’s a detailed guide on how hacking works in System Shock 2 Remastered.

How to Hack in System Shock 2 Remastered

Hacking terminal in System Shock 2 Remastered

Before you can start hacking, you’ll first need to access a terminal. This could be a door, a crate, a vending machine, or even a security system such as a camera or a turret. Once you access the terminal, there will be an orange section on the right-hand side with the word “Hack” written on it.

Press that button, and the Hacking terminal will open, where the difficulty level, Hack level, and Cybernetics Affinity will be written. The more stats you have on the Hacking skill, the lower the difficulty will be.

Now, once the terminal is open, you will notice multiple boxes. Some of those boxes will have green around them, and some of them will have red. The red ones are called ICE nodes, and they are danger points.

Your objective is to link three nodes in a straight line to complete hacking. The higher your hacking skill is, the easier it will be to do so. This means the percentage chance that you have to light up the final node will be at its highest if your Hacking skill is also very high.

However, if you fail your hacking, you’ll have to reset, which will cost you Nanites. The chance to fail a hack will never go below 15%, irrespective of the level of your hacking skill.

If you fail on an ICE Node, the device will break, which will be problematic as you won’t be able to hack again, and your entire plan will be disturbed. Some devices are permanently damaged, while others require special tools to fix them.

Finally, you can also use an ICE Pick, which will grant you a one-time instantaneous hack.

Is Hacking worth it in System Shock 2 Remastered?

Yes, Hacking is one of the most important skills that you should focus on in System Shock 2 Remastered. This is because, when you are trying to find your way through difficult areas, hacking security systems and turrets will make your navigation easier.

Additionally, Crates and doors often have items or Nanites hidden behind them, which you need for survival. Hacking can make it easy to access all those resources as well. However, you must be careful when Hacking the Crates as they explode if you fail.

Additionally, if turrets get damaged, you’ll need the Auto Repair Tool to get them back online. Always remember that hacked turrets fight for you, so it’s in your advantage to keep them healthy.
