Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, one of the most anticipated games of the year has released to excellent early reviews from critics and users alike. The game, at the time of writing this sits at an impressive Critic Rating of 88 and a Generally Favorable status on Metacritic.
Several big websites have given it a full rating as well – Dexerto has given it a 5-star rating, complimenting it as ‘the perfect medieval sandbox’, giving an unprecedented level of open-world and freedom in the way you approach quest; and praised the openworld, the combat and survival mechanics. VG247 also came out impressed with a 5-star rating, finding it to be ‘one of the funniest games in a while’. GameRant was also full of praise for the game, putting it up as ‘one of the most historically accurate, realistic and gorgeous recreations of Middle Ages ever designed for a video game’.
The game debuted strongly on Steam as well, with the active player count peaking at an impressive 160k in spite of being a weekday. In addition to that, the player reviews also sit at 90.14%, and that too after 5k+ users gave their scores to the game. With this start, the numbers over the weekend are sure to spike to even more impressive levels.
This, thus looks to be one of those rare games that gets critics and the gaming community on the same page as far as game feedback is concerned; and marks a strong opening for 2025. While January is in any case typically a muted month, Feb onwards is where momentum around game releases continues to build. This month and the next have some pretty big ones lined up for launch: we have Civilization 7, followed by Avowed and Monster Hunter: Wilds lined up in Feb itself.
Kingdom Come Deliverance II has been developed by Warhorse Studios for PS5, PC & Xbox Series S/X, and follows the events of the first game that was launched back in 2018. The first game has also developed a dedicated fanbase on account of realistic settings and an engaging open world, in spite of somewhat clunky controls and combat.
