Lagiacrus is a returning monster in Monster Hunter Wilds and was added to the game alongside Title Update 2, which was released on June 30, 2025. The Lord of the Seas is one of the greatest monsters of all time in the franchise, and fans have been waiting a while for its release.
Lagiacrus is a Leviathan-class monster and brings forth both on-land and underwater combat, with the latter being absent from the game for 14 years. However, with both Lagiacrus and underwater combat returning, here’s a detailed guide on how to navigate the fight and claim your victory against the Lord of the Sea.
How to unlock Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter Wilds

You unlock Lagiacrus by reaching the Scarlet Forest base camp and talking to Eric to get the new Extra Mission: Trembling Blue Currents. Follow Eric as prompted, and you will finally meet Lagiacrus.
Before unlocking Lagiacrus however, you’ll need to complete two pre-requisite quests: the main quest A World Turned Upside Down and the side quest Forest Doshaguma. You’ll also need to reach Hunter Rank 31 to be able to access the quest.
Once you have met all the conditions, an Extra Quest will pop up where you will have to talk to Eric in the Scarlet Forest base camp. If you don’t have a mission marker but have met the pre-requisite conditions, open Mission Info to track the quest.
As part of Trembling Blue Currents, you will be capturing it instead of hunting Lagiacrus. Once the Tremors on Land, Sea, and Forest mission is complete, Lagiacrus will be available for hunting permanently in The Sea-Born Lord Optional Quest.
You can also fight the Tempered version of Lagiacrus Hunter Rank 41. Finally, if you’re in Scarlet Forest right after the update, make sure you go to some locale and come back to initiate the Extra Mission.
Lagiacrus Strengths and Weaknesses in Monster Hunter Wilds

Here is a list of all the strengths and weaknesses of Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter Wilds:
Weak Points | Resistant Points | Element/Ailment Weakness | Element/Ailment Resistance | Best Weapon Damage |
---|---|---|---|---|
Head (Breakable) | Neck | Fire | Water | Slash |
Back (Breakable) | Torso | Ice | Thunder | Bulgeoning |
Forelet (Breakable) | Dragon | Pierce | ||
Tail (Severable) |
Lagiacrus is quite weak to Fire and Ice, and you should consider bringing these elements to the fight. Water and Thunder don’t work against the monster, so don’t bother with them at all.
Breaking the Back and Head severely weakens the monster, and severing the Tail can make the fight easier. When it comes to weapons, it’s up to you since Slash, Bulgeoning, and Pierce all work very well against the boss.
Best Equipment to fight Lagiacrus

Best Recommended Weapons | Best Recommended Armor |
---|---|
Wyvern Blade “Maple” | Gore Magala Armor |
Griefbringer Urstox | Arkveld Armor |
When it comes to weapons, anything that deals high fire damage is effective against this boss. Wyvern Blade “Maplel” is the Rathalos Long Sword and can deal massive elemental damage, which will help shut down Lagiacrus.
If you’re not using Long Sword, you can also go for the Griefbringer Urstox, which is the Guardian Doshaguma Bow. In my own run, I went for a Dragon Piercer build using this Bow, and Lagiacrus was down very quickly. It’s also easier to break wounds with the Bow, which helps stun the boss during its enraged phase.
As for armor, a mix of Gore Magala and Guardian Arkveld is still the meta. This is because you get a lot of Affinity from the mix of these two sets, which helps cut down monster parts very quickly.
If you’re confused about what weapon to make, go for the Artian weapons, which, by now, you should have enough materials to craft.

Lagiacrus – Fight Breakdown and Moves

Lagiacrus is a really aggressive monster, and it will charge at you with powerful moves right from the start. The two major moves that you should be careful about are the Lightning Splash and the Lightning Discharge.
The monster will shoot out Lightning in front of its feet and splash it over the player. If hit, it deals quite a bit of damage. Additionally, Lagiacrus will charge up its back and discharge the Lightning in its surrounding area.
The radius isn’t too big, but if you’re standing on water and if it hits you, you will get one-shot by it. The monster also has a charging move where it will rush at you and deal lightning damage. It will do this move twice in succession, so make sure to stay on your defensive stance until the second charge.
Once the monster has low enough health, it will then move to its nest. Here, the game will prompt you to jump under the water so as to fight Lagiacrus. You’ll need to stop it from releasing a powerful Lightning discharge that will one-shot you if you don’t weaken it underwater.
The underwater fight isn’t too bad, as you’ll have to pick up slingers and shoot at the monster. Additionally, there will be rock formations inside the water, which you can hurl at the monster and deal a lot of damage. Finally, you can attach yourself using your slinger and deal damage.
However, Lagiacrus will continue to use most of its attacks underwater, and you’ll have to dodge them to the best of your ability. Once enough damage has been dealt, it will move up once again, and now you can either kill it or capture it, depending on what you feel.
Since I was using the bow, I was able to dodge most of its attacks due to the weapon’s inbuilt ability. However, any kind of evasive weapon, such as the Long Sword or the Dual Blades, will also work perfectly well.
