PlayStation looks to have come through a majorly successful quarter, with record numbers across hardware, software and network for the quarter ended on 31st December 2024. One key milestone was the highest monthly active users by a fair margin as compared to the last eight quarters: the previous high was 123 million monthly active users back in the same period for 2023, a number which was comfortably surpassed this quarter by a full 6 million.

As far as software (games) sales numbers are concerned, 95.9 million units were sold in q3 of 2024, as compared to 89.7 million units in q3 of 2023. The interesting thing here is that first-party titles numbers actually decreased, from 16.7 million units to 11.6 million units. This shows that games released from other studios, like Black Myth Wukong in particular, would have had a big role to play in the strong overall games sales numbers for PlayStation.

The report also goes on to list major first-party sales for a select set of titles since launch. God Of War, for example, across PlayStation and PC has had 23 million units sold since launch, while Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has had 10 million units sold since launch.

    PS5 State of Play

With the recent State of Play announcing a slew of games, the release calendar for the year is also starting to look pretty packed, and with other currently unconfirmed game release dates also expected to be locked in as the year progresses, it looks like Sony is placed quite well to have another strong year as far as sales numbers go.

The report also covers a comprehensive look at the movies and music segments owned by Sony as well. In movies, Venom: The Last Dance has pulled a revenue of 478 million $, Kraven the Hunter 54 million $, and Saturday Night 10 million $.

There are expected movie release dates as well for the coming year and the next:
