The Legend of Zelda live-action movie has taken a step closer to becoming a reality, as Nintendo has revealed the actors who will portray Link and Zelda.
The movie, which was only recently delayed to 2027, will star Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason as Link and Zelda, respectively.
16-year-old British actor Ainsworth will be donning the green tunic, having already starred in another live-action remake as the voice of Disney’s Pinocchio. He was also in Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting of Bly Manor and Netflix’s Sandman series.
Bragason, a 21-year-old English actor, also has some Disney pedigree in the series Renegade Nell, and has also been seen in BBC series Three Girls and the Jetty, vampire comedy The Radleys and Battle of Hastings drama series King and Conqueror.
The Legend of Zelda Movie Gains Momentum
Following the massive success of the Mario Bros. movie, Nintendo has been eager to bring its other juggernaut games to the big screen (although it has yet to confirm a Kirby epic, which is somewhat disappointing, personally speaking).
The Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball is set to helm the movie, and has previously stated he’s looking to Studio Ghibli as an inspiration for his take on the iconic Nintendo franchise.
Legendary Nintendo figurehead Shigeru Miyamoto is producing The Legend of Zelda movie alongside former Marvel CCO Avi Arad.
I’m still a little disappointed it’s not an animated movie that looks like Wind Waker, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen one day.
The Legend of Zelda movie is scheduled for release on May 7, 2027.
