[end-Feb update: with Monster Hunter Wilds, Avowed & Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii released, and the confirmation of Fable launch in 2026, we have updated this list to remove these games and add new ones that missed the list earlier, or which have been announced since we put out this article: Lies Of P: Overture, Game Of Thrones: Kingsroad, NeoBerlin 2087, Ballad of Antara]
2025 is shaping up to be a phenomenal year for RPG fans like us, with a bunch of promising games to add to the wishlist while we complete our 2024 backlog. With Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 hitting it out of the park, here are the other RPGs to keep an eye out for in 2025. We have only taken those with a confirmed release year of 2025, also the list is not based release date, it is ranked basis the RPGs that we are most excited to play.
15. Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2

I would love to place this much, much higher on the list – just on the basis of this being a sequel to a fan-favorite and beloved game that was released way back in 2004. But, the long development cycle and the bumps along the way make me a bit reserved on this one, with multiple delays, studio changes and so on. The game is set to release in the first half of 2025 for PC, Xbox Series S/X and PS5, with the developers promising a richly detailed world with its varied clans and an opportunity to shape the character the way we want to.
14. Ballad Of Antara

Another souls-like that is attempting to make its mark in an increasingly crowded space, this one will have the protagonist travel across two worlds – a normal one and one with an alternate, supernatural reality called Para (Lords of the Fallen, anyone?). This one also will also support co-op, with new regions and end-game support promised by the developer. Ballad of Antara was revealed during the State of Play last year, and is slated to come out sometime in 2025.
13. Neo Berlin 2087

If you are just about done replaying Cyberpunk 2077, and are itching to get into another similar dystopian world, then Neo Berlin 2087 might just be the game to keep an eye out for. The game promises to be a ‘detective thriller’, with players taking on the role of Nolan, a police officer tasked to solve the murder of the head of the police department. The game is being developed by Elysium Game Studios, and the developers have looked at Blade Runner & Ghost In The Shell as inspirations for world-building. The exact release date or a window has not come, but the game is slated for release in 2025 for PC, PS5 & Xbox Series S/X.
12. Crimson Desert
Crimson Desert from developer Pearl Abyss looks to be a promising entry into the dark fantasy action RPG genre, and the gameplay trailers so far look to check all the boxes – a gritty world, intimidating bosses, varied build possibilities and dragons to fight and ride. The game releases late 2025 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X. The game started development as a prequel to Black Desert Online back in 2020, but has now taken the shape of a single-player game, set in the same universe.
11: AC Shadows

Assassin’s Creed has not been having the best of times lately, and the mixed reactions to the gameplay footage and previews have for sure not helped the cause. So what should have been an easy win (an AC game set in Japan has been the most demanded ones by fans over the years) is turning out to be an uphill struggle for Ubisoft. The game looks stunning, and on paper, 2 different assassins with their own playstyle, skill trees and a rich range of weapons sounds great for replay value, build possibilities and so on. Let’s hope this one turns out to be a more pleasant surprise and a return to the glory days and heights for the series. The game releases on Mar 20 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.
10. Game Of Thrones: Kingsroad

A fresh attempt to bring the ever-popular Game Of Thrones universe to video games, this one promises to allow players to explore Westeros, especially The Wall & Castle Black, either as a Knight, a Sellsword or an Assassin, each with it’s own distinct combat style. The game will also feature co-op for certain beast encounters and dungeons. Game Of Thrones: Kingsroad is expected to come out in Q2 2025 on PC. There is a demo for the game available to try out on Steam, meanwhile.
9. Lies Of P: Overture
Sure, it is a DLC. But as far as promising gameplay and experience go, this one definitely makes the cut into the most anticipated action RPGs for the year. The base game was a sleeper hit, bringing great commercial success to Neowiz as well as critical plaudits. The DLC takes us back to the time before the base game just as the puppet frenzy is about to break in the city of Krat, and the trailers show some new delightful Fable Arts and intimidating bosses to use them against. This one is expected to come out in Summer 2025
8. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Clair Obscur looks to be a mix of traditional turn-based combat with a bit of real-time mechanics also built into it, and a pretty out-there tone and world-building; which looks fresh, different and a pretty inviting one to spend time in. If the steady record of the publisher is anything to go by, we are in for a good little treat with this one. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is being published by Kepler Interactive, the ones behind Sifu, Tchia, Scorn & Pacific Drive. The game has a strong cast led by Andy Serkis; and releases on Apr 24th for PC, PS5 & Xbox Series S/X.
7. AI Limit

Joining the long list of souls-likes / anime games; for 2025 we have AI Limit from developer SenseGames. The game demo was received pretty well and received immediate comparisons to Code Vein, with tight and responsive combat, different weapon types, and complicated level design being just the way it should be in any souls-like game. We also came back pretty happy with the demo, and intrigued enough to put this on our most anticipated RPGs for 2025 list. AI Limit releases on Mar 27 for PC and PS5
6. The Outer Worlds 2
Outer Worlds was received well by all, and the tongue-in-cheek humor, various companions, snappy dialogs, different ways that you could steer conversations, and a very flexible yet impactful character build were the highlights of this small in size but big in scope, a mini-Fallout version from developers who clearly were been-there-done-that. It is a safe bet that Outer Worlds 2 is more than likely to build and improve upon the promising start, and all early indications in terms of a hilarious trailer and gameplay point to that. Outer Worlds 2 releases in 2025 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.
5. Gothic 1 Remake

A remake of the 2001 classic, this one is being worked upon by Alkimia Interactive for a 2025 release on PC, Xbox Series S/X and PS5. The first game in the series and the ones that followed have all developed a dedicated fan base, and with good reason – the level of immersion, combat and build crafting that the games offer have few peers even in the crowded action RPG segment. The remake has also been making the right noises and has been received well across various gameplay releases, combat deepdives and looks to be just the perfect game to sink hours into the Valley of Mines.
4. Borderlands 4

Borderlands 4 gives Gearbox Software a chance to make up for the pretty much average Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands; and try scale the highs they touched with Borderlands 2 and Handsome Jack. While there was a bit of uncertainty on the launch year, it has now been confirmed to be in 2025, and the brand does carry enough sway over a large fan base to make it one of the most anticipated games of the year. In terms of what will the game involve exactly, at this point we don’t have much apart from the trailer that premiered at The Game Awards, so we are keeping our fingers crossed that it delivers on the fun gunplay that has made the franchise carve out a special niche for itself.
3. Wuchang Fallen Feathers
Wuchang Fallen Feathers looks set to do what Black Myth Wukong did to the action-adventure / RPG genre, what with some insanely fast-paced, challenging but rewarding combat coupled with unique and gorgeous world-building: The game is set during the Ming Dynasty period, with warring factions and some dangerous looking monsters added to the mix. If you are a fan of fast-paced action RPGs, then you can bet big on this one. While it is scheduled to be released in 2025, the date has not been fixed yet. Wuchang Fallen Feathers will come out on PC, PS5 & Xbox Series S/X.
2. The First Berserker: Khazan

The First Berserker: Khazan is set in the DNF universe and follows Khazan, the first general of the Pelos empire who overcomes death to wreck vengeance and dish out revenge upon those that planned his downfall. The game picks up the second spot in my most anticipated RPGs of 2025, and that is fully on the strength of an absolutely kick-ass demo that the developers made available for all to play and experience. I came out of the demo highly impressed with almost nothing to fault – the game played smoothly, combat was tough but fair, weapons, armor and stats felt impactful with various playstyles and build possibilities, and bosses were just the right mix of challenging and extremely satisfying to defeat. If the entire game plays like the demo, then we are in for a mighty good time when the game releases on Mar 27 for PC, PS5 & Xbox Series S/X.
1. Elden Ring: Nightreign
Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in! After having finished yet another run in the Lands Between and chasing Miquella all over in the DLC; I thought I could give this a rest, till this legend of a game blindsided all of us with an announcement that no one was expecting or prepared for during the 2024 Game Awards: the Nightreign mode. This is a co-op mode where you choose one of the eight playable characters, and join with up to two of your friends (or go solo), the objective being to defeat enemies and survive boss battles when nightfall happens. Do that for three in-game days, and you go up against one of the eight major bosses. All of this will play out in the Limgrave area of the Elden Ring map. The network test goes live in Feb, and the game is scheduled for a 2025 launch on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X and Xbox One.
And that completes the list of our most anticipated RPGs to come through in 2025. Do you have other games that we should have added to this list? Do let us know, as also the ones that you are planning to play for sure from the ones above.
