Developer Slime King Games and publisher Top hat Studios have confirmed Under the Island, the vibrant pixel art action RPG, will not only be heading to PC via Steam, but to consoles as well.
You play as Nia, a kid new to Seashell Island – who, after a few mishaps while getting to know the locals and surroundings, ends up on… not the best of terms with studious long-time local girl, Avocado. Despite this, they uncover an alarming predicament as Seashell Island is doomed to sink into the ocean.
So it’s up to you to battle ferocious monsters, solve intricate puzzles, and explore various ecosystems teeming with weird life such as vomiting eggplants and aggressive bipedal onions. It’s also filled with colorful characters that will likely make your connection to the Island and desire to save it from certain doom that much stronger.
Check out the latest trailer for Under the Island, which debuted at the recent Top Hat Studios Publisher Showcase.
Under the Island Console Trailer
The developer states that this isn’t a rigid adventure, as there are multiple unique ways to experience the world, and the game can be played at your own pace. The idea is that Under the Island is trying to bottle some of that childhood joy of discovery and adventure in terms of game structure whilst also utilizing SNES-style pixel art visuals. It’s already working on me to be honest.
There’s no release date for Under the Island just yet. We’ll keep an eye out for it though.
