RGG Studio used Summer Game Fest 2025 to showcase fresh footage of its period-set RPG, Project Century, and introduced a new name and time period along with it.
In the previous look at Project Century, we saw a 1910s period setting, but now, in this trailer, we get the streets of a Japanese city in 1943, and a trilby-wearing protagonist gets into the usual Yakuza/Like a Dragon-style shenanigans. At the end of that trailer, we get the new name of Stranger Than Heaven.
Have a look at Stranger Than Heaven in action below.
Stranger Than Heaven Trailer
It’s nice to see RGG doing something a little different, and that 40s Japan looks gorgeous. I’ve like the studio’s recent shifts in direction, but this really scratches an itch.
RGG Studio has been steadily growing its reputation over recent years, having seen its Yakuza series receive a second wind just as it seemed to be coming to an end. It’s since been rebranded as Like a Dragon and has given us some rather interesting twists on the formula, including turn-based RPG combat in the more recent titles. The developer also made the criminally underplayed and underappreciated Binary Domain in 2012. Where’s a new one of those, eh, RGG?
We may have a name, but there is still no confirmed release date or platforms for Stranger Than Heaven. There’s always Sunday’s Xbox Showcase, I suppose…or Gamescom.
