If you want to become the master of machines in System Shock 2 Remastered, then Tech skills are your best friend in the game. In fact, these skills make the game extremely easy and have some of the most important ones, regardless of your playstyle.

While you are inherently proficient in some of them when playing as the UNN Navy, you can also level them up for other classes. Here’s a detailed discussion on the various Tech skills that you can unlock in the game.

There are a total of five Tech skills you will come across in System Shock 2 Remastered, namely, Hack, Repair, Modify, Maintain, and Research. Here’s a detailed description of all the Tech skills and how valuable they are in the game:

    Hack

This is arguably the most important Tech skill that you should level up in the game. This is because the game is filled with locked doors and crates that you will need a passcode to open. However, with the Hack skill, you can open them up, making it very easy to navigate your way through the world.

Additionally, you will get to use it very frequently, which makes your life a lot easier. Once you collect ICE Picks, the skill reduces its value a little, since you can auto-Hack everything, but you should still level it up regardless, especially for the early to mid-game.

    Repair

The repair skill allows you to fix weapons and Replicators. The problem with this skill is that you will rarely find use for it, especially when it comes to Replicators, as the ones that need fixing are very few in number.

In fact, the Maintain skill provides so many benefits that it outshines the Repair skill massively. You can use it to fix a few broken weapons in the early game, but you’ll come across an abundance of Auto-Repair kits that will make this skill almost useless.

    Modify

This is another skill that finds little to no value in the grand scheme of things. It increases the success rate of modifying weapons in the game. However, you will find a plethora of French-Epstein devices in the game, which can auto-modify weapons.

This means you’ll be simply wasting your Cyber Modules on the Modify skill, especially if you’re in single-player. However, if you’re in multiplayer, then the skill becomes more valuable, since the number of those French-Epstein devices available to each player reduces significantly.

    Maintain

This is quite possibly the second most important Tech skill that you can level up in the game. This is because you’ll have to ensure that your weapons are always in perfect shape. However, this upgrading will cost Nanites, but as you level up this skill, the cost will be reduced.

Additionally, as you level up this skill, your reserve Energy is increased by 10% for every point. This makes it easier to use Energy weapons, Implants, and Powered Armor.

    Research

This skill is also quite valuable as you’re able to research organs from dead enemies, which in turn helps you to deal additional damage to them. You are also dependent on this skill to get access to items such as the Psi Booster, Annelid Healing, and Psi Glands.
