There are four difficulty settings in Neverwinter Nights 2 Enhanced Edition, namely Easy, Normal, DnD Hardcore Roles, and Very Difficult. However, each one of them comes with specifications that you have to consider before choosing one.
Easy
This is the best one for new players and is the easiest difficulty setting in the game. The various specifications are as follows:
- Single Player: No PvP (Fireballs don’t affect party members)
- Multi Player: Depends on Server Setting
- Players don’t take critical damage
- Players using ranged weapons have no attacks of opportunity
- Players using potions don’t have attacks of opportunity
- Players deal over 50% damage
- NPCs deal over 50% damage
- Players can die
- Hold, Paralyze, and Stun on players last for a very short duration
- Confusion effects have a low impact
Normal
If you’re a new player, Normal isn’t too different from Easy, but it offers a little more challenge, which you should be able to manage. Here are the specifications for this difficulty setting:
- Single Player: No PvP (Fireballs don’t affect party members)
- Multi Player: Depends on Server Setting

DnD Hardcore Rules
This is a difficulty setting for veterans who are used to the rules of Dungeons and Dragons. Here are the specifications for this difficulty setting:
- Single Player: Full PvP (Fireballs and AoE spells will affect party members)
- Multi Player: Depends on server settings
- Player Characters are affected by Critical Hits
- Players using ranged weapons are affected by attacks of opportunity
- Players using potions are affected by attacks of opportunity
- Player Character and NPCs deal normal damage
- Players can die
- Hold, Paralyze, and Stun on players have normal effects
- Confusion effects have normal effects
Very Difficult
This is the highest difficulty setting and will be challenging even for veterans. This is meant for those who want to challenge themselves in impossible ways and come out victorious. Here are are the specifications for this difficulty setting:
- Single Player: Full PvP (Fireballs and AoE spells will affect party members)
- Multi Player: Depends on server settings
- Player Characters are affected by Critical Hits
- Players using ranged weapons are affected by attacks of opportunity
- Players using potions are affected by attacks of opportunity
- Player Character deals normal damage
- NPC deal 200% damage
- Players can die
- Hold, Paralyze, and Stun on players have normal effects
- Confusion effects have normal effects
