After physical editions were unceremoniously revealed and taken away, Konami has officially confirmed a Suikoden I & II HD Remaster Switch 2 release date. But it’s decidedly mixed news.
First, the good news. The Suikoden I & II HD Remaster Switch 2 release date is the same as the Switch 2 launch day! On June 5, 2025, you can play these classics in wide quad high definition (2560×1440) in TV mode and full high definition (1920×1080) in handheld mode, both at a frame rate of 60 FPS. There’s a also a ‘Physical’ release you can pre-order now.
Suikoden I & II HD Remaster Switch 2 Release Has Some Caveats
The bad news is unfortunately, more significant. That physical release is a game-key card that requires an internet connection to download. There’s no upgrade path from the Switch version, and you won’t be able to use your save data from that version in the Switch 2 version either.
There aren’t many reasons to buy the Suikoden I & II HD Remaster Switch 2 version if you already own it elsewhere, and you can probably find a physical copy for other consoles at a reasonable price as well.
The Suikoden series began almost 30 years ago with Suikoden for the PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and PC. You play as the son of a general in the Scarlet Moon Empire, who is fated to find 108 warriors to cause a revolt against the sovereign state and bring peace to the land once more.
The sequel came three years later, and the story also takes place three years after the events of the first game, in a different location, with a new protagonist. Both games were first included in a compilation in 2006 for the PlayStation Portable.
Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars first released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on March 6, 2025.
