The next expansion for the popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV has been announced, it’s called Evercold, and fans can expect it to drop in January 2027. While that might not be as soon as some players would like, at least the announcement came with a Final Fantasy 14 Evercold teaser to give us an idea of what to expect.
The announcement of the new expansion came during the FFXIV Fan Fest keynote, where the trailer introduced players to the game’s chilling new setting. The Warrior of Light, alongside the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, is seen venturing into a new realm, which has been gripped by an encroaching frost, hence the name, Evercold.
Alongside the new trailer, Square Enix has also given us a glimpse of what else we can expect from the upcoming FFXIV expansion, which includes:
- Two new jobs: tank and physical ranged DPS
- Level cap increased from 100 to 110
- New cities
- Distinctive new areas
- New gigantic constructs and other monstrous threats to overcome
- New allies to encounter
- New dungeons
- New trials
- A new raid series
- A new Ultimate raid
- PvP updates
- Ongoing content updates, including new gear and crafting recipes, updates to the Duty Support System, and more
If you’re excited to jump in and see what Evercold has to offer, there is some good news. Square Enix has released patch 7.5 as of today, April 28, 2026, to bridge the storyline and prepare players for the new content and story coming in Final Fantasy XIV Online Evercold.

Square Enix also announced that they will be releasing Final Fantasy XIV on the Nintendo Switch 2 this August, and even offered those attending Fan Fest a glimpse of the game running on a Switch 2. Although you won’t need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to play, you will, however, need a separate Final Fantasy XIV subscription.
