Stepping away from the main questlines and simply exploring the world can often be a great way to level up your character, as well as picking up some treasure, which can often lead to you either becoming more powerful or having more items to sell to the traders scattered around the map. But you might have stumbled across the Traveller’s Camp, and be wondering why you can’t find the second chest.
Before you go and waste time smashing up everything in the area, hoping to find a hidden chest, let me just stop you there. That won’t work. Trust me, embarrassingly, I tried. Near the start of the game, you should have picked up a note that mentions a red scarf wrapped around a tree. This note is important because, unlike many of the notes in Windrose, this one gives you a clue that will serve you well in multiple parts of the game.

Instead of making the same mistakes I did, simply look around the camp until you find a tree with a red scarf wrapped around it. Thankfully, for some unknown reason, all the pirates in this game decided to bury and mark their treasure in the same way, so it doesn’t matter which of the abandoned camps you end up at; this is a sign there’s treasure hidden there.

Simply head on over to the tree and start digging at the base of it. You might need to try a few spots until you start to see the sparkles showing that something is buried underneath. If you’ve already picked up the first chest, as soon as you open this one, the area will be cleared, and you should get your bonus XP.
If you’re looking to level up quickly in Windrose and aiming to take on Thomas Richards, this is one of the quickest and easiest ways to gain XP and increase your stats. As the name suggests, these camps are abandoned, you don’t need to fight anyone. Simply go there, grab the treasure, and enjoy some easy XP.
