Where to Find Coal in Palworld

If you’re jumping into Palworld for the 1.0 launch, the chances are you’re either a new player looking to get a head start before the game’s full release, or you’re a returning player looking to remind yourself of what the heck you are doing, and where to find coal in Palworld, alongside other useful resources such as Ancient Civilization Parts.

Knowing where to find Coal in Palworld becomes important once you start crafting more advanced gear and materials. Coal is mainly used to make Refined Ingots and Carbon Fiber, so it quickly becomes one of those resources you keep running out of.

Coal is found by mining large, dark mineral nodes. These look much blacker than normal Stone and are easy to recognise once you know what to look for. You can mine Coal with a pickaxe, although a higher-quality pickaxe will make the process much faster.

The best places to find Coal are dry, rocky, and desert-style biomes. You usually won’t find much of it in the grassy starting areas, beaches, or thick forests. Instead, you should look for darker rock nodes in deserts, rocky hills, cliffs, mountains, and dry highland areas.

The Best Biomes for Coal in Palworld

The most reliable biome for Coal is the desert. In particular, Twilight Dunes is one of the easiest areas to check once you are ready to leave the safer starter regions. This is the sandy desert area associated with Anubis, and it has several rocky patches where Coal nodes can appear.

When searching Twilight Dunes, don’t just walk across the open sand. Coal is more likely to be found around rock formations, raised ground, cliff edges, and the rougher parts of the desert. The area can also be hot during the day and cold at night, so bring suitable armour or supplies before making a long trip.

Deep Sand Dunes is another strong Coal farming area. It’s a much larger and more dangerous desert region, so it is better suited to players with stronger Pals, better armour and a reliable mount. If Twilight Dunes is your first proper Coal farming spot, Deep Sand Dunes is a good next step once you are more confident exploring higher-level areas.

Verdant Brook is also worth checking, especially if you don’t want to rely only on desert farming. This biome is greener than the desert, but it has plenty of cliffs, hills, and rocky ground where Coal nodes can appear. Focus on the stone-heavy sections of the area rather than the thick forest or flat grassland.

Mount Obsidian can also have Coal, but it is a much harsher region. This volcanic biome is dangerous, hot, and better suited to higher-level players. It is not the best first place to search, but it can be useful later if you are already exploring the area for other resources.

How to Spot Coal Nodes in Palworld

When you enter a Coal-friendly biome in Palworld, look for large black rocks rather than grey Stone or copper-coloured Ore. Coal nodes are usually darker, more solid-looking and easier to spot in sandy or rocky areas.

A flying mount makes Coal farming much easier, especially around cliffs and highland biomes. Instead of searching just from the ground, fly over rocky ridges, plateaus, and raised desert areas. Coal is often easier to spot from above because the dark nodes stand out against sand, grass, or pale stone.

It also helps to search around fast travel points, Sealed Realm entrances, and Alpha Pal routes. These areas often sit near cliffs, hills, or open rocky terrain, which makes them useful landmarks when looking for Coal without needing exact coordinates.
