For the past six years, there’s been one game that I check back on and hope to see the news of a release date: Fable 4. Earlier this year, I finally got what I had been waiting for: news on Fable 4’s rough release date, a trailer, and even some information on what to expect from the upcoming game. Although one of the most important things to note is that the new game in the series is officially just called Fable, and will be a reboot for the franchise, instead of a direct sequel.
It’s not just the game itself that’s had a refresh; Fable is no longer being helmed by the original developer, Lionhead Studios. Instead, the reboot is being developed by Playground Games, who are best known for creating the popular Forza Horizon series.

Fable’s Release Date
It’s been roughly 16 years since the Fable games saw a new entry to the series. So, as you would expect, fans are keen to find out when they can finally step into the world of Albion once again. The good news is, after three trailers teasing us over the past three years and six years waiting for a release date, the wait is finally over.
Fable will be releasing across Xbox, PC, and PS5 in Fall 2026. The release date was announced during the Xbox Developer Direct event; however, for now, it only gives us a rough release window, not a date set in stone.
You might also have noticed that PS5 is on the list of platforms. While most of us had expected Xbox Game Studios to keep it just to Xbox Series X|S, it has now been confirmed that’s not the case, and it will be released simultaneously across all platforms.
What to Expect From Fable
Personally, one of my favorite things about the previous Fable games was their uniquely British sense of humor. Thankfully, when I watched Richard Ayoade, AKA Moss, playing a vegetable-loving giant, and a chicken being kicked over the horizon, I felt safe that the upcoming reboot would be just as weird and wonderful as the previous entries.
Then the third trailer came out in 2024, not only giving us more of a glimpse into the game’s humor, but also some hints at the new morality system. Instead of having the previous horns or halo to show a visualization on a straightforward morality system, this time it seems you will be able to determine how your actions have impacted the game based on your reputation and how NPCs react to being in your presence.
It would also seem that your reputation might be different in each region of the game. So, instead of having a straightforward, you’re either good or bad, one town could praise your arrival, while another, not so much.
We also know that the game will feature a slightly revamped combat system. It will still mix up ranged, melee, and spells; however, this time around, the developers have claimed to create a more fluid combat system. Finally, one of the main questions asked by Fable fans is, “will I be able to customize my character?” The answer is yes, in fact, the developers have stated that fans will have even more customization than any of the previous Fable games.
With the announced release date drawing ever closer, we can expect to start seeing more information coming out, and hopefully a few more game trailers. As soon as there’s more information and news, we will be sure to let you know. Until then, don’t go being a chicken chaser.
