Palworld Lawsuit Explained: Does It Affect Version 1.0?

Pals fighting against each other in Palworld

Palworld is finally set to leave Early Access in July, but the Palworld lawsuit has left one big question hanging over Pocketpair’s survival crafting hit: could it have an impact on Palworld’s full release?

The legal dispute between Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, and Palworld developer Pocketpair has been running in the background for a while now. Naturally, that has left some players wondering if Palworld is still going to release, and how much it will change as a result of the Palworld lawsuit.

The short answer is simple: Palworld Version 1.0 is still going ahead. Pocketpair has confirmed that the full release will launch on 10 July 2026, bringing new Pals, new regions, a new threat, and the long-awaited World Tree. However, the lawsuit hasn’t completely left Palworld unimpacted.

What Is the Palworld Lawsuit About?

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair in 2024, alleging that Palworld infringed multiple patent rights.

That distinction matters. The case is not simply about whether Palworld’s creatures look too much like Pokémon. It is more focused on alleged patent infringement, which usually means specific systems, mechanics, or technical ideas and features.

For players, that makes the situation a little less straightforward than the usual “this looks like that” argument that surrounded Palworld at launch.

    Has the Lawsuit Changed Palworld?

Yes, it already has. Pocketpair has previously confirmed that some Palworld mechanics were changed because of the ongoing litigation. One major change removed the ability to summon Pals by throwing Pal Spheres, replacing it with a static summon next to the player.

Gliding mechanics have also been adjusted, meaning players now need a glider equipped rather than simply using certain Pals in the same way as before. These changes didn’t stop Palworld from moving forward, but they do show that the lawsuit has had a visible effect on how the game works.

Does the Palworld Lawsuit Impact Palworld 1.0

At the moment, there is no confirmed delay to Palworld Version 1.0 because of the lawsuit. It would seem, following the recent announcement, that Pocketpair is still moving ahead with the full release, and Version 1.0 is being treated as the game’s biggest update so far.

The update will mark the end of Early Access and introduce major new content, including the World Tree, which has been one of Palworld’s biggest mysteries since launch.

That said, the Palworld lawsuit may still influence how Pocketpair approaches future mechanics. The studio is more than likely to be careful with anything that could sit too close to disputed systems, especially around creature-catching, summoning, or movement.

    What Players Need to Know

For now, the main thing players need to know is that Palworld 1.0 is still coming.

The lawsuit has already changed some mechanics, but it does not appear to be stopping the full release. Existing players can still look forward to the July update, while new and returning players should be able to jump in without worrying that Version 1.0 has been cancelled or delayed.

The legal situation is still worth watching, but for Palworld players, Palworld’s next big milestone is clear: new content, a full release, and the unraveling of mysteries surrounding the World Tree.
