If you’re looking for a way to escape the summer heatwave, there’s some good news. July is shaping up to be an impressive month for RPG fans, with the July 2026 RPG release calendar packed full of impressive new entries, as well as ones returning with updates and expansions.
While July 2026 doesn’t have one giant genre-defining release dominating the whole month, it does, however, have a pretty solid lineup of JRPGs, action RPGs, strategy RPGs, remasters, expansions, and a few niche releases that could easily slip under the radar.
The good news is, July has something for every type of RPG gamer. If you want anime action, there is Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad. If you want monster-taming, Digimon is back on Nintendo hardware. If you want tactical chaos, Disgaea is doing Disgaea things again.
July RPG Release Dates
Moonlight Peaks: July 7
Moonlight Peaks kicks the month off with something much cosier than the usual world-saving RPG drama.
This supernatural life sim puts players in the role of a vampire living in a magical town full of witches, werewolves, mermaids, and other unusual locals. Expect farming, potion-making, spell-casting, romance, and plenty of spooky-but-cute atmosphere.
It’s probably more of a life-sim than a traditional RPG, but with character relationships, progression, and fantasy flavour, it should appeal to players who like the softer side of role-playing games.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok: July 9
Granblue Fantasy: Relink is getting a major expansion in July with Endless Ragnarok.
The base game already had fast action combat, big boss fights, and co-op-friendly quests, so this expansion should be one to watch if you enjoyed Relink or have been waiting for a reason to return.
It’s not a full new game, but it is still one of July’s biggest RPG-adjacent releases, especially for players who like anime-style action RPGs with flashy combat and plenty of character builds to play around with.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger: July 10
Digimon Story: Time Stranger arrives on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 in July, giving monster-taming fans another big RPG to watch.
The game follows the bond between humans and Digimon, with players travelling between the human world and the Digital World while collecting, raising, and battling with Digimon. For anyone who prefers turn-based monster-taming RPGs over real-time action, this could be one of the month’s most important RPG releases in July.
Echoes of Aincrad: July 10
Another exciting release in July comes from Sword Art Online, with another shot at RPG glory in the form of Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad.
Rather than simply retelling the anime from the usual perspective, Echoes of Aincrad lets players create their own character and enter the floating castle themselves. The game focuses on action combat, dodges, parries, gear progression, and tough encounters, while still trying to capture the feeling of being trapped inside Aincrad.
There is also a high-stakes Death Game Mode for players who want something closer to the anime’s brutal premise. That alone should make this one interesting for Sword Art Online fans, even if previous games in the series have been a bit hit and miss.
Culdcept Begins: July 16
Culdcept Begins is one of the more niche releases on the list, but that is exactly why it stands out.
The series mixes board game movement, card battling, and RPG-style progression, creating something that doesn’t really feel like much else around today. Players move around a board, claim territory, and use cards to build strategies against opponents.
It’s probably not going to be for everyone, but for players who like tactical RPGs, card games, or strategy-heavy oddities, Culdcept Begins could be a proper hidden gem.
Annihilated: July 21
Annihilated is a dark story-driven RPG with a simple but nasty hook: you can only save one member of a broken hero party.
Each character has lost something important, and your choice shapes the route you take through the game. That makes it sound less like a massive open-world RPG and more like a focused narrative experience built around replayability and difficult decisions.
If you like your RPGs bleak, strange, and character-driven, this is one to keep on the radar.
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster: July 23
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is not a new RPG, obviously, but it is a new one for the Nintendo Switch 2, and certainly worth paying attention to if you like to play RPG games on the go.
Final Fantasy X remains one of the most beloved entries in the series, while X-2 has built a stronger reputation over time for its job system and combat. The Switch 2 version also gives newer players another easy way to experience both games.
If you somehow missed Tidus and Yuna’s journey, July is not a bad time to fix that.
Disgaea Mayhem: July 23
Disgaea Mayhem might just be the most chaotic RPG release of the month, or even the year.
The Disgaea series has always been about absurd numbers, strange humour, tactical battles, and grinding until your characters become completely ridiculous. Mayhem looks like a fresh spin on the franchise rather than just another standard sequel, which makes it especially interesting.
For tactical RPG fans, this is easily one of July’s most exciting releases.
EverQuest Legends: July 28
EverQuest Legends is another nostalgia-heavy release for July, but this time with a modern twist.
Rather than simply bringing back classic EverQuest exactly as it was, this version is designed to be more manageable for players who love old-school MMOs but don’t have endless free time anymore. That means a classic EverQuest feel, but with changes aimed at solo players, small groups, and people who can’t live inside an MMO like it is 1999.
For older MMO fans who grew up, got jobs, and maybe had a few kids, this might be one of the best ways to relive the glory days of gaming without investing too much time.
Blue Reflection Quartet: July 30
Blue Reflection Quartet is a big package for fans of Koei Tecmo’s magical girl RPG series. The collection brings together multiple parts of the Blue Reflection franchise, including the console games, anime story content, and an updated version of the mobile game Blue Reflection Sun.
It is more of a collection than a brand-new sequel, but for anyone interested in the series, it looks like the cleanest way to catch up. Given how easy Blue Reflection has been to miss over the years, Quartet could be a useful reintroduction.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: July 30
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is another one that’s getting the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition treatment in July.
Again, this isn’t a newly released RPG, but it is still a major release for JRPG fans. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has always been one of the Switch’s biggest role-playing games, but it was also held back by the original hardware in places.
A Switch 2 version should make it easier to revisit, especially for players who stepped away because of the performance or never got around to playing it the first time.
The Relic: First Guardian: July 31
July ends with The Relic: First Guardian, a dark fantasy action RPG launching first on PS5 and PC.
This one is aimed more at players who like heavy combat, bosses, and Soulslike design and gameplay. If July’s anime RPGs and strategy games are not your thing, The Relic gives the month a darker and more action-heavy finish.
It’s also one of the better-looking RPG releases of the month for anyone after something with a bit more grit, and something that could offer a bigger challenge.
